Cultural Cargo
17 June 2005
Ruth has recently returned from Liverpool with a Cultural Cargo of 7 young people from 7 Westcountry schools. The young people sailed aboard s.v. Ruth to give them an opportunity to consider what culture means to them and how they thought the Olympic bid could benefit those in the South West. A filmaker was aboard to record their experiences and present the final film as part of the London 2012 Olympic bid. Ruth sailed down the West coast under high pressure conditions and light winds, everybody ending the trip much browner than when they started! Highlights of the trip for the young people were encounters with dolphins, puffins, basking sharks and seals. Before reaching our destination Falmouth, we anchored in the Helford river overnight and had a fantastic swim once we were all used to the temperature! All in all a fantastic trip enjoyed as much by the crew as by the young people. Thanks to Creative Partnerships for organising the project.
