Refit Newlyn Slip
01 December 2009
Ruth has just successfully completed her 5 year out of the water survey. Selected ares of copper sheathing were removed to expose and examine the hull and fastenings. The condition of the hull was almost as good as the day she was launched. Fastenings were pulled for inspection and all were of a satisfactory standard. The rudder was stripped of the copper clad to inspect the condition of the timber, all was sound. It was decided to leave the copper off the rudder as it was too expensive to replace.
The rudder hangings were all replaced with new, giving a few more years life to that area of the ship.
A new steel shoe of 10mm plate was constructed and fitted to the keel. We wanted to do this when we purchased the ship in 2004. But we had to earn some money before this could be done.
All those involved in the work carried out on Ruth have done exceptionally well in extending the life of the vessel. We are proud owners of this beautiful ship. |
