Binic La Morue en Fete
17 May 2007
A new festival on Ruth's programme for 2007, Binic La Morue en Fete, or the Cod Festival, is an annual celebration of the cod industry in this quaint, friendly Breton village. The festival has 3 main music stages, including traditional Breton dancing, shanty singers, rock bands and lots of other great live music to create a fantastic festival atmosphere. The first night we arrived all the boat crews were invited to a complimentary three course dinner with wine and live music. The dinner included lots of salted cod! For anyone who likes art and crafts there was a great range of stalls. Penzance was also represented by the Smock Shop who had a popular stall on the quayside.
There is a beautiful sandy beach a few minutes walk from the harbour and the weather was ideal for fitting in a bit of sunbathing. The festival organisers and local people were extremely welcoming and great enthusiasts of historic ships.
This is a festival Ruth will plan to attend annually and for those who have experienced the fun of Paimpol and Douarnenez, Bininc is a fabulous addition to the festival circuit in Brittany. Groups are welcome to hire the ship for the festival but we shall leave it open for individuals too and the trip will be booked on a first come first served basis. Don't forget, this is also a great opportunity to stock up on your cheap wine and beer!
