Trafalgar Day 2005, Penzance

Penzance goes to town for the Trafalgar Day celebrations.

Ruth played the part of HMS Pickle in the re-enactment of the news of Nelson's victory and death reaching Penzance Harbour. The lugger, Happy Return, received the news from Ruth and delivered the message of Nelson's death ashore. It is believed that Penzance was the first place to receive the news and the Mayor of Penzance announced the news from the balcony of the Union Hotel - this event was re-enacted too...in full costume!
